天兵战大圣

Chapter 6: Sky Soldiers Fight the Saint

The seven colored fairies couldn’t move for a long time after the Saint cast the spell on them. When the powers had passed, they picked up their baskets and went back to report to the Queen Mother: “We were paralyzed by the Saint’s powers, so we come back late.” The Queen Mother questioned: “How many peaches did you pick?” The fairies said: “We have two baskets of small peaches, three baskets of medium peaches… but the big peaches in the back were all eaten by Wukong.” The Queen Mother raged at the news, immediately trying to find the Jade Emperor. At this time, some of the wine brewers came to report: “Someone has come to the Jade Pool and drank all the godly wine.”

After a while, Lao came and said to the Jade Emperor: “This is really strange that somehow the five gourds of elixirs that I made were stolen by someone.”

Just then, the Barefoot God arrived at the Heaven Palace, huffing with exhaustion and saying: “I met the Command Sky Saint on my way to the Jade Pool. He said that the Jade Emperor told me to go to Tongming Hall before the Peach Banquet. I heeded his advice, but when I arrived at Tongming Hall, I didn’t see a single person. So I have come to inform you of this.”

The Jade Emperor was greatly angered and slightly frightened, saying: “This monkey really is reckless!” As he ended his sentence, more news arrived, saying that the suspect responsible for all this was the Command Sky Saint. The Jade Emperor only got angrier, sending the Four Kings, Tower King Li, and Nezha to take one hundred thousand sky troops in an attempt to capture Wukong.

The army reached Flower-Fruit Mountain, and the Tower King sent the nine Yao Stars to battle. They came before the Curtain of Water Cavern and started shouting insults. The small monkeys quickly ran inside to report: “There are nine gods outside yelling insults, saying that they are to capture you!”

The Saint was drinking wine with the four generals when he heard this report. He simply said: “Just let them.” After a while another monkey came in, saying that the nine gods were still outside shouting. The Saint again didn’t do anything. Not long later, some monkeys sprinted inside, saying: “King, this time, they knocked down the door and are coming inside!” The Saint casually put down his goblet, put on his armor, and took out his staff, walking out of the door.

The nine Yao Stars cursed when Wukong came out, saying: “You are a stupid person that keeps horses and doesn’t know about death! First you steal peaches, and then you steal wine. You totally messed up the Peach Banquet and stole elixirs from Lao. Then you took the wine here for your own pleasure. You know that you have broken many laws that you must die for if you break.” The Saint laughed and replied: “These are all done by me. But what could you do?” The stars said: “The Jade Emperor sent us to capture you! Quickly surrender! Or else, we will flatten your mountain!”

The Saint got angrier, saying: “You people are only the worth of a hair. How much power do you have, that you dare brag in front of me? Let’s see with a hit!” The nine gods each took out their weapons and started for the Saint. Wukong started waving his staff, and with blocks in every direction beat up the gods.

The nine Yao Stars came back and reported to the Tower King Li: “The monkey is very powerful; we couldn’t win over him.” When he heard, the Tower King bought the Four Kings and Nezha with him to the battlefield. The Saint came up for battle, with Niumo King and his four generals by his side.

This great battle lasted from the morning to sunset, in the end a blur with dust clouds everywhere. Niumo King was captured, and the four generals all fled back into the cavern. The Saint, seeing that it was near dark, pulled out a handful of hairs and shouted “transform”. The hairs suddenly turned into tens of thousands of Saints, all holding a staff, who circled the kings and Nezha, easily defeating them.

The Saint took back his hairs and turned back to the Curtain of Water Cavern. The four generals brought out all the monkeys, crying three times and then laughing three times. The Saint asked: “Why do you guys cry and laugh when you see me?” The four generals said: “Niumo King was captured by the sky soldiers, so why do we not cry? But despite that, we still won, so we should laugh.” The Saint said: “Victory and defeat are normal in war. You don’t need to be sad. Tomorrow, see me beat up those people for revenge.”

The second day, as dawn dipped over the horizon, the Saint led all the monkeys and called for battle. The Tower King Li sent his second son Muzha forward to battle. Muzha waved his metal staff and called: “Which one is the Saint?” The Saint took out his staff and answered: “It is me. Who then are you, daring to ask me?” Muzha said: “I am the Tower King’s second son Muzha. Today I have come to capture you!” The Saint said: “Don’t brag about yourself; try to stand my staff.” Muzha raised his staff in combat. The two fought on the mountain slope for about fifty to sixty rounds before Muzha ran back in defeat. At this time, the Saint took back his troops and stationed them right outside the Curtain of Water Cavern. Muzha said to the Tower King: “This Saint is really powerful. I couldn’t win over him.” The Tower King grew partially scared, so he sent Muzha to the Jade Emperor for additional forces.

Muzha came to the Heaven Palace, and when the emperor heard of the request for more, he became quite surprised, saying: “How can this Command Sky Saint win my hundred thousand troops? Now the Tower King has come back for more; which god should I send to help?” Guanyin came up and said: “Erlang God is very powerful. You could let him the task of capturing the Saint. He will surely win.” When Guanyin finished, the Jade Emperor immediately sent the Erlang God to the cavern. Erlang God led the sky soldiers, and with his God Dog and weapon, set out for Flower-Fruit Mountain. When the small monkeys saw, they ran to report to the Saint.

The Saint put on his armor and jumped out of his cavern. When he saw the Erlang God, he merely laughed, saying: “Which small god are you, coming to attack?” The Erlang God yelled: “You have eyes yet don’t have eyeballs! How can you not recognize me? I am the Erlang God who has come to capture you!” The Saint replied: “I see that you are still young and not fit to die. Quickly go back and let the Four Kings out to meet their death!” The Erlang God only got more angered: “Devil, take a shot!” The Saint turned around and raised his staff in combat.

The two fought for three hundred or so rounds, but still there wasn’t a single sign of victory or defeat. Erlang God suddenly transformed into a figure thousands of feet high. He lifted his spear and sliced toward the Saint. The Saint turned into the same size, and raised his staff in turn.

At this time, the other sky soldiers attacked towards the Curtain of Water Cavern. The monkeys were defeated, pretty much scattering everywhere. The Saint was fighting with Erlang God when he suddenly saw his monkeys running away. He felt a little fear, so he turned around to leave.

The Saint came back to the Curtain of Water Cavern when a group of sky soldiers surrounded him and smirked, saying: “There is no escape for you.” The Saint turned into a bird and flew onto a branch. The sky soldiers couldn’t find him, and in the end they all frantically screamed: “He has escaped!”

At this time, the Erland God arrived. The sky soldiers said: “We surrounded the Saint here not long ago, but in the blink of an eye he disappeared!” Erlang God suddenly spotted a bird sitting on a tree. He knew that no bird would be peaceful enough in the midst of battle, so he knew it was the Saint. He in turn transformed into an eagle, flapping his wings and going towards the Saint. When the Saint saw this, he transformed into a big bird and flew into the sky. The Erland God turned into a sea crane and started chasing. The Saint transformed into a fish, diving into the water.

The Erlang God came to the water and didn’t see the Saint, so he knew the Saint must be something in the sort of a fish or shrimp. He turned into an osprey floating on the surface. The Saint was swimming in the form of a fish when he saw an osprey. He knew it was the Erlang God, so he quickly turned around to flee. When the Erlang God saw this, he knew it was the Saint became it had turned at the sight of him. He quickly flapped his wings, catching up to peck.

The Saint quickly came out of the water and turned into a snake, going into the grass. The Erlang God transformed into a common crane, stretching its neck to catch the snake. The Saint transformed again into a bird, settling on a nearby mountain slope.”

At this time, the Erlang God turned back into his regular form. He took out his slingshot and tried to shoot the Saint. The Saint rolled over and turned into an earth temple. He turned his mouth into the door, his tongue into a figure of a god, and his eyes into windows. But he had nothing to do with his tail, so he could only turn it into a flag that was behind the temple. When the Erlang God came down the slope and didn’t see a bird, he looked around and saw a temple. When he looked closely, he saw the flagpole behind the temple, not in front of it. He laughed and said: “I have seen temples before, but I have never seen one with the flag behind. This is that devilish monkey. He wants me to enter so that he could bite on his. I will not be tricked!” The Erlang God stuck out his hand to break the windows. The Saint saw that this was bad, so he jumped into the air and disappeared.

The Erlang God didn’t see the Saint, so he went back up to the Tower King Li and asked: “King, have you seen that monkey?” The Tower King waved around his Truth of Monsters Mirror and laughed, saying: “Quickly go! The Saint turned invisible and went to your home, the Jiangkou Temple!” After the Erlang God heard this, he quickly set off to his home.

The Saint came to the temple and turned into the form of the Erlang God. He jumped down from his cloud and walked inside. The guards didn’t know that this one was a fake, all kneeling down in respect. The Saint sat in the middle when someone reported: “Another Erlang God has come!” Everyone walked out, and all were shocked. The Erlang God asked: “Is there a Command Sky Saint here?” The people said: “There wasn’t anyone except for another person the same as you.” The Erland God walked inside. When the Saint saw him, he turned into his regular form and said: “Don’t worry. This temple is already mine!” The Erlang God raised his spear and attacked. Wukong turned around, took out his staff, and blocked his hit. The two fought out of the temple, and in the mist fought back to Flower-Fruit Mountain.
